WHAT IS ACID 1 AND ACID 2?

Acid 1
• Dissolves base metals such as copper, silver, nickel, iron, zinc, and converts certain metals into metal oxides – aluminum, chromium, tin.
• Does not react with gold and platinum group metals.

Acid 2
• Dissolves aluminum and tin.
• Does not react with copper, silver, gold, and platinum group metals.

TESTING METHOD

• Step 1
• The sample is scratched on the test stone.
• Acid 1 is applied to the scratch mark.
• If the scratch mark disappears, the tested metal is not gold.
• If the scratch mark remains, the metal being tested is likely gold.

• Step 2
• Acid 2 is applied to the scratch (after applying Acid 1).
• The color of a 585 gold mark (14K) will disappear almost immediately.
• A higher purity gold mark (>585) will begin to disappear – the higher the quality, the slower the scratch mark disappears.
